NWABA launches Goalball Program for Blind Students

Vancouver, WA—April 29, 2009—The Northwest Association for Blind Athletes is proud to announce that we launched a new program to help blind and visually impaired students across the Northwest stay active through the sport of Goalball.

Goalball is a Paralympic sport played by athletes who are blind and visually impaired. Developed after WWII as a way to keep blinded veterans physically active, it has become the premiere team game for blind athletes. Played competitively by men and women, it is a very fast paced, physically challenging, strategic and exciting game.

Through this program, we will provide each blind and visually impaired student in middle school and high school a Goalball and all other materials to learn the game. This program will enable the students to stay physically active in there physical education classes.

“We are very excited about the Goalball program, The first phase will be to host awareness events for students, families and the community in Vancouver and Seattle. “Said President Nick Wilks.
