Vancouver, Washington—October 14th, 2014—The Northwest Association for Blind Athletes (NWABA) announced today the Northwest Storm Men’s Goalball Team placed first at the 2014 South Sound Throw Down Goalball Tournament on October 11th and 12th in Tacoma, WA. The event attracted 12 teams from across the Northwest. It was hosted by Northwest Association for Blind Athletes and Metro Parks Tacoma Adaptive Recreation.

Goalball is a Paralympic sport played by individuals who are blind and visually impaired. Developed after WWII as a way to keep blinded veterans physically active, it has become the premiere team game for blind athletes. Played competitively by men and women, it is a very fast paced, physically challenging, strategic and exciting game.

“We would like to congratulate all of the athletes who helped the Storm take first place at the tournament last weekend. Opportunities like these are essential to building confidence, self –esteem, and physical fitness , all of which improve quality of life for individuals who are blind or visually impaired in our community.” said Co-Founder & Executive Director, Billy Henry.

The Northwest Storm is made up of individuals of all ages with visual impairments primarily from Clark County, WA. It is part of Northwest Association for Blind Athletes Sports Teams Program which has a goal of increasing the number of opportunities for people with visual impairments to participate in ongoing sports and physical fitness.
