Event Spotlight: NWABA Hosts National Goalball Championship
Athletes and coaches 150 strong converged on McLoughlin Middle School in Vancouver June 20–22 for the National Goalball Championship. Hosted by NWABA, the tournament attracted 19 Goalball teams, 12 men’s teams and 7 women’s teams, including members of the National Goalball team. An official Paralympics event, the tournament was officiated by judges who flew in from U.S. locations.
“We were very excited to be chosen to host the Championship in Vancouver,” said Billy Henry,
NWABA Executive Director. “It was an extraordinary event with some of the best Goalball athletes in the country. We look forward to hosting similar events in the future.”
What a weekend! This action-packed tournament was quite an organizational feat requiring more than 100 volunteers who acted as goal timers, line judges, lunch servers, drivers and much more. After three days of very active competition,the Georgia Firebolts women’s team and Michigan Omega men’s team won the 2013 Championship.
